2014 BMW S1000R Video
Some people call them naked sportbikes, but we like to refer to the ones featuring liter engines as Hooligans.
Most manufacturers have one – Ducati has its Streetfighter, Aprilia its Tuono V4R, KTM its 1290 Super Duke R, and Triumph its Street Triple, to name a few non-Japanese models.
Though late on the scene, BMW has joined this rank of Hooligans with its S 1000 R, which is a stripped-down version of its S 1000 RR Superbike.
The Bavarian manufacture detuned the 999cc inline four a bit, though it still offers a wheelie-friendly 160 horsepower (down 33 from the superbike).
Typical of BMW, the S 1000 R also arrives with all the snazzy electronics, including two riding modes, Race ABS, and ASC (Automatic Stability Control) traction control.
