2013 Germany Grand Prix MotoGP Video
For the first time in 2013 MotoGP, the two front runners weren’t able to compete due to injuries related to crashes.
The drama arrived at practice for this past weekend’s Grand Prix of Germany at Sachsenring. First, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo suffered a huge high side, the reigning MotoGP Champion landing hard on the shoulder he recently had repaired.
The injury arrived after a crash two weeks ago during practice for Assen. Lorenzo broke his shoulder, underwent surgery, and raced that weekend’s Grand Prix of the Netherlands. He finished fifth, and earn much respect from MotoGP fans.
But during free practice two at Sachsenring, the Spaniard crashed, and did some damage to his recovering shoulder. Lorenzo returned home to Barcelona for further surgery, and was forced to sit out Sachsenring MotoGP.
Next was Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa, who held the points lead heading into Sachsenring. The Spaniard also suffered a high-side, landing hard on his left shoulder. Pedrosa attempted to ride in Sunday’s MotoGP, but was sidelined due to low blood pressure. He would also suffer a DNS.
With the top riders out, the competition for the podium was fierce. But when the 30-lap race was over, Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez would take the win. The rookie, who celebrated his second win of 2013 MotoGP, was joined on the podium by Monster Tech 3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Valentino Rossi. With his win, Marquez took over the MotoGP points lead, and is currently two ahead of Pedrosa with nine rounds remaining.
