2013 Daytona AMA SuperBike Video
The 2013 AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike season began this past weekend with the first of 11 rounds at Daytona International Speedway.
Helping to highlight Daytona 200 Week, the SBK series began on a quick note for three-time AMA SBK Champion Josh Hayes. The Monster Energy Graves Yamaha rider was quickest throughout practice, and took the pole by over a second ahead of National Guard Suzuki’s Roger Lee Hayden.
This momentum continued during the opening laps of race 1 of 2, but by lap five, things slowed dramatically. Hayes would have clutch issues attributed to his aggressive launch, and ultimately suffer a DNF.
But luck was still in the Monster Energy Graves Yamaha paddock. Josh Herrin, who was running in second until Hayes had issues, took the race-1 win at Daytona. It was Herrin’s first-ever SuperBike victory.
Herrin would take victory at the 2.9-mile circuit featuring 12 turns ahead of Yoshimura Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas and Pegram Racing Yamaha’s Larry Pegram.
