Zero S and DS Showcased at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Last month, Zero Motorcycles provided S and DS electric motorcycles for the month-long festivities leading up to the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500.
The motorcycles were used by Speedway Operations for the parades, time trials and practices, and also during race day May 27.
Zero says with its quick maneuverability, fuel-free all-electric drivetrain and silent operation, Zero Motorcycles provide the perfect on-site solution for navigating the busy infield, track and surrounding park.
Scot Harden (Vice President of Global Marketing, Zero Motorcycles) says: “The Indy 500 is the world’s largest single day sporting event and one of the most watched motorsports events in the world. We were truly honored to be a part of this year’s racing activities. Zero is a company dedicated to innovation and supporting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a natural fit for us. With the Speedway’s commitment to improving automotive and transportation technology, Zero is a unique partner to aid the operations team.”
Mel Harter (Senior Vice President of Operations, Indianapolis Motor Speedway) says: “Having Zero’s electric motorcycles for use by our operations staff for the 2012 Indianapolis 500 added to our efficiency and increased our ability to quickly navigate the facility. With approximately 1,000 acres of ground to cover at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during event time, the Zeros got us where we needed to be quickly and much easier than any other mode of transportation could have provided.
“Our entire team works very hard to prepare for the hundreds of thousands of race fans that fill the Speedway on race day and having Zero supporting us this year made preparing a little bit easier.”
With lifetime-free maintenance and operating costs of approximately $.01 per mile, the new 100+ mile range Zero Motorcycles offers some of the world’s easiest-to-own forms of transportation.
