2012 AMA Pro Road Racing
After setting provisional pole in yesterday’s first qualifying session, two-time defending SuperBike Champion and Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider Josh Hayes kept his #1 crossplane-crankshaft YZF-R1 at the top of the lap charts and earned his ninth consecutive pole position of the season, which is a new AMA Pro Road Racing record in the SuperBike class.
Hayes has also earned 11 consecutive pole positions since last season, and he is now tied with Mat Mladin for the most consecutive poles (Mladin completed the task in 2005/2006.
The series has been to nine venues so far this season, including this weekend’s round at the 14-turn, 2.2-mile New Jersey Motorsports Park road course, and Josh has won the pole at every round this year.
Josh Hayes (Monster Energy/Graves Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike) says: “I was kind of surprised to see the laptimes as fast as yesterday because of the rain last night, and there were a few damp patches on the track.
“I’ve had four years on my R1, and that’s a big benefit. We know what we have to do to win, and that’s what we’re going to try to do.” Josh has won a total of 11 races so far this season, including eight wins in a row.
Joining Hayes on the front row at New Jersey Motorsport Park will be Attack Performance Kawasaki’s Steve Rapp, National Guard Jordan Suzuki’s Roger Hayden and Jordan Suzuki’s Ben Bostrom.
Heading up the second row will be Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Blake Young, joined by Team Amsoil EBR’s Geoff May, Foremost Insurance BMW’s Larry Pegram and Riders Discount Suzuki’s Taylor Knapp.
SuperBike Race 1 is scheduled for later today at 3:15 PM EST.Google+
