2012 AMA Supercross
As JGRMX/Toyota Yamaha’s James Stewart continues to recover from a fractured bone in his hand sustained in a crash at Indy Supercross, the team has decided to select a fill-in rider – Gavin Faith.
Faith, 20, of Iowa, currently competes as a privateer in the Supercross Lites class with multiple top-10 finishes.
Faith will pilot the JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha prepared YZ450F in the premier Supercross Class at the Seattle and Salt Lake City rounds of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship on April 21 and 28 respectively.
Earlier this season, The GEICO Honda team signed Faith to a short term contract to fill in for injured SX Lites rider Wil Hahn, who broke his hip during a training accident in January.
As for the two-time AMA SX Champion Stewart, his team reports that he may return for the final round in Las Vegas May 5.
Stewart was injured at Indy hile stopped on the track; the Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha rider was knocked out cold when he was struck by GEICO Honda’s Kevin Windham. During the crash, Stewart also fractured his hand.
The injuries caused the two-time AMA Supercross Champion to miss out on the Indy round, the subsequent three at Toronto, Houston and New Orleans. And while absent at Houston, Villopoto clinched the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship.
Along with Stewart, two other top riders have been missing from the series – Two-Two Motorsport Honda’s Chad Reed (injured, Round 7 at Arlington) and Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey (injury, practicing for Round 9 at St Louis).
Faith will make his JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha Team debut this Saturday, April 21 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Wash. SPEED will air the event live in its entirety starting at 10:30 p.m. EDT.Google+
