Following two of the most impressive performances of his career at Misano this past weekend, Aprilia Racing Team’s Max Biaggi is a few points closer to possibly earning his second World Superbike title.

The 2010 World SBK Champion piloted his RSV4 to a double win, taking the first race by a slim margin over Althea Ducati’s Carlos Checa, and the second race by over five seconds ahead of Honda World Superbike’s Jonathan Rea. Taking the final podium position in race one was Checa’s teammate Davide Giugliano, and in race 2 third went to BMW Motorrad’s Leon Haslam.

Biaggi’s performance was impressive due to him starting from 10th on the grid. In the first race, it would take Biaggi half of the race to get to the front before battling with Checa for the win. But the “Roman Emperor” wasted no time in race 2, getting into the lead on the second lap. Once up front, he was unstoppable.

Besides the two victories at Misano, Biaggi only had one other victory during the season opener at Phillip Island. But with these wins, and three other podiums, Biaggi now leads the 2012 World Superbike Champioship 210.5 points after seven of 14 rounds, 38.5 ahead of Rea (172).
