2012 Brno MotoGP Qualifying Results
Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo took his fourth pole of the 2012 MotoGP Championship following a record-breaking lap during qualifying at Brno for the 2012 Czech Republic Grand Prix.
Lorenzo, the current points leader, took the pole with a lap of 1:55.799, which was 0.196 of a second of Monster Tech 3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow. Second place was the Brit’s best qualifying effort in MotoGP, though Crutchlow crashed midway through the session.
Completing the front row will be Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa, who led all three practices but dropped his Honda RC213V at the beginning of qualifying. Pedrosa couldn’t match the time of the leading Yamaha’s, the Spaniard posting a 1:56.327, 0.528 of a second behind Lorenzo.
Heading up the second row will be Lorenzo’s teammate, Ben Spies. The Texan, who suffered mechanical failures at his two home rounds in Laguna Seca and Indy, was just missed a front-row start, qualifying 0.004 of a second behind Pedrosa.
Joining Spies on the second row will be future Ducati Team rider, Andrea Dovizioso, who had a technical issue with his Monster Tech 3 Yamaha, and Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi, who will be back on the factory Yamaha for the 2013/2014 MotoGP Championships. The sixth-place start was Rossi’s best qualifying efforts since joining Ducati in 2011.
LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl will start from seventh on top of the third row. The German will be joined by San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista and Cardion AB Racing Ducati’s Karel Abraham, who also hit the gravel trap on his Gp12.
Power Electronics Aspar’s Randy de Puniet, who also crashed in the session, will start from tenth, taking the top time for the CRT field. The only other rider to suffer an accident was San Carlo’s Michele Pirro, who like the others, walked away unscathed.
Missing from the grid will be Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner and Ducati Team’s Nicky Hayden, both suffering injuries last week at qualifying for Indy MotoGP.
