2012 AMA Pro Road Racing Charity Events

AMA Pro Road Racing fans attending the Big Kahuna Atlanta round April 20-22 will have an opportunity to be charitable in a very unique and fun way.

How? M1 PowerSports, the promoter of AMA Big Kahuna events, and 21st Century Motoring, LLC, the exclusive U.S. distributor of the exotic MonoTracer fully-enclosed motorcycle, have partnered to provide fans at Road Atlanta the chance to take some laps around the circuit in a MonoTracer.

This first-time program is being conducted in support of the safety of the AMA Pro Road Racing riders participating in the weekend’s event, with 100% of the funds collected from ride-alongs at the Big Kahuna Atlanta earmarked for donation to the Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization with a mission of reducing racetrack injuries by advocating and promoting the use of soft barriers.

Cameron Gray
(CEO of M1 PowerSports) says: “I’m very excited to welcome the MonoTracer to the Big Kahuna family, it’s going to be a great vehicle to attract people to the events.

“We’re also going to be utilizing the MonoTracer as part of the M1 PowerSports mission statement of ‘Getting People to the Track.’ During the week leading up to the Big Kahuna Atlanta, we’ll have the MonoTracer cruising the Georgia streets giving away official Big Kahuna t-shirts and event tickets so be sure to keep an eye out for this awesome machine.”

The MonoTracer is a cutting-edge, high-performance two-seater unlike any other vehicle in the world, offering the excitement and fun of a motorcycle, the performance and all-weather comfort of a sports car and the exclusivity of an Italian super-car.

The technology employed in this fully-enclosed motorcycle is impressive to say the least. Since the operator can’t put their feet down, the MonoTracer sports a patented “landing gear” system that is lowered within a half-second to stabilize the vehicle when it stops or is riding at slow speeds. Once the vehicle is up to speed and the operator retracts the landing gear, riders will get the full motorcycle road racing experience around Road Atlanta as the MonoTracer leans up to 52 degrees to navigate the turns.

Motorsports enthusiasts will marvel at the MonoTracer’s world-class construction. The body is a composite monocoque, made from DuPont Kevlar® and carbon fiber, and the vehicle is powered by a powerful fuel-injected BMW 1200cc gas engine. The MonoTracer accelerates from 0 to 60 in just over five seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH while still getting over 50 mpg at highway speeds.

Jim Lorimer (President, 21st Century Motoring) says: “Riding in the MonoTracer is a one-of-a-kind experience. The quick acceleration pushes you into the back of your seat, and leaning through the corners while in an enclosed ‘cockpit’ gives one the sensation of flying in a jet just five feet above the ground.

“Even the fans that don’t go for a ride will benefit, as they will undoubtedly enjoy seeing the MonoTracer circle the track. This vehicle creates so much excitement and gets so much admiration that I often have people chase me down on the highway — and even follow me into my driveway — so that they can see the vehicle in-action and find out more about it. Giving people the chance to ride in the MonoTracer around Road Atlanta, while supporting the Roadracing World Action Fund at the same time, is a win-win for everybody.”

It only takes a $35 donation to the Roadracing World Action fund to take a ride-along in the MonoTracer around Road Atlanta during the biggest motorcycle event of the year. With only six vehicles like this in the U.S. and a total of only 135 worldwide, this is a very rare opportunity to ride in this $80,000 exotic vehicle. It is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get out on the track and see and feel what the AMA Pro Road Racing riders see and feel, while within the safety and comfort of an enclosed Kevlar® shell.

Ride-alongs will be offered following each day of racing action during the Big Kahuna Atlanta weekend and rides for media members will also be offered during the Thursday Media Day (April 19, 2012). MonoTracer ride-along spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis and fans will be able to get more information about the program and sign up soon at the M1 PowerSports Big Kahuna Atlanta event page, located at m1powersports.com/big-kahuna-atlanta/.
