2012 AMA Supercross
In the first three rounds of the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship, the only rider to stand on the podium at every race was KTM’s newest rider – Ryan Dungey.
The 2010 AMA Supercross’ Champion took third at the season-opener in Anaheim, first in Phoenix, which was KTM’s first-ever AMA SX win, and second at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, Saturday evening.
During LA Supercross, Dungey got the holeshot at the start, and was off to a quick start. But unfortunately, the race was red flagged after an Villa Yamaha’s Ryan Morais landed on Muscle Milk Honda’s Trey Canard (Canard fractured his back, Morais broke his jaw).
Upon the restart, Dungey got off the line in fourth. He battled with Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer, Joe Gibbs Racing James Stewart and Two-Two Motorsports Honda’s Chad Reed, and eventually finished second behind Reed. Taking the final podium position was Stewart.
With his second-place finish, Dungey maintains the overall points lead after three of 17 rounds; he now leads Villopoto and Reed (tied) by five points.
Ryan Dungey (KTM SX-F 450) says: “It feels great to hold the red number plate as we head into the fourth round. It’s still early in the series, but it is definitely off to a good start for the Red Bull/KTM Team.
“I can’t thank everybody on the team enough. They have put in so many hours and we have made so much progress on the new 450. The bike is running amazing.”
