Motorcyclists Helping Motorcyclists
During a recent motocross accident, GP Motorcycles’ founder, Paul Lima, was severely injured. Close friends have recently set up the “Lima Family Recovery Fund” to help Paul and his family deal with expenses. They also set up a Facebook page dedicated to the fund. Following is an article from the staff at GP Motorcycles:
We are reaching out to you to keep our friend and fellow motorcycle aficionado and shop owner Paul Lima in your prayers and to help Paul and his family in this time of extraordinary tragedy and hardship.
Paul Lima built GP Motorcycles, a San Diego dealership of the finest European brands, from the ground up.
Fueled by his fervent passion for motorcycles, Paul has provided exceptional service to thousands of friends and customers across the country. For almost two decades, Paul has always strived to make sure all his customers had the best possible experience with GP Motorcycles, even if it meant putting the best interest of his business aside. Introducing people to the motorsports lifestyle, sharing the experience, and creating new enthusiasts have always been the aim of Paul and GP Motorcycles.
Paul never hesitated to go the extra mile to represent the brands and products he regularly enjoyed, himself. Whether on the racetracks around the country, at trade shows or in the local community, there was no denying Paul’s passion and commitment to the brands he showcased with such genuine enthusiasm.
As many of you know, on April 4, 2012, Paul suffered a tragic accident while enjoying his passion. Paul had terrible crash on a motocross track and fractured bones in his lower back, and as a result of the accident, he is now paralyzed in both legs.
Paul recovered remarkably well from a 9-hour surgery to realign and stabilize his back, and he is now undergoing therapy and training at a rehabilitation center to get adjusted to his new life.
While everyone prays for a full recovery, the prognosis is unfortunately not very promising. The doctors have given their normal, safe, low-percentage probability of gaining any meaningful sensation in his legs, but for those of you who know Paul, that small percentage is all he needs.
Friends, it is now time for us to help Paul!
This is an incredibly difficult time for Paul, his wife, his two children and everyone close to him. There are many physical and psychological challenges that lay ahead for Paul, and the best we can do for him and his family is help pave a path across this arduous terrain that he must now find his way across.
Paul does have medical coverage. However, there will be many additional expenses not covered by his insurance. There will be family expenses, such as home remodeling, a specialty vehicle, and hired help. There will be additional rehabilitation programs and/or medical procedures not covered by his medical insurance. In order to create an environment that gives him the best chance for recovery, Paul Lima and his family need our help.
We have set up a bank account as well as a PayPal account to accept donations for the benefit of the Lima family. Please show your generosity and contribute so Paul can get the best treatment available, and so that his family at GP Motorcycles can welcome him back as soon as possible.
