2012 MotoGP Crash & Injury Update

Three weeks following the surgical rebuild of his left fibula and tibia, Pramac Racing Ducati’s Hector Barbera was back at the Instituto Universitario USP Dexeus in Barcelona for a progress update.

Doctor Xavier Mir says the MotoGP racer’s first rehabilitation phase (passive therapy) was successfully completed. The Spaniard can now began active physical therapy, working in both the pool and gym, recovering from the injury sustained while training in Barcelona last month.

The team confirms Barbera will make a full return to MotGP at Brno in the Czech Republic in two-weeks time. Toni Elias will Substitute for the recovering rider at next weekend’s Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. The Moto2 will be at the controls of the Pramac Racing Ducati GP12, just as he did at the Laguna Seca MotoGP.

Hector Barbera (Pramac Racing Team Ducati GP12) says: ““Firstly, I want to thank everybody for all their messages of support since the day of my surgery. The support and love has been overwhelming and it has been a great comfort to me at this difficult time.

“I’m undergoing rehab on my leg; the situation is improving. It’s been three weeks since the operation, and yesterday, Doctor Mir evaluates my physical progress. Now IÂ’m able to give the leg an active workout, in the pool and in the gym, to get ready for the 12th round of this season in Brno.

“I will have to work as fast as I can, but I hope to be in good shape for the Grand Prix Ceské Republiky.””

Barbera’s best finish was seventh at Assen MotoGP.
