2012 International Motorcycle Show Stats
Although the economy was dire, representatives of the 2011/2012 Progressive International Motorcycle Show say that attendance was up slightly this year.
Advanstar, who manages the IMS tours, say nearly 500,000 people visited throughout the 12-stop tour, which began in San Mateo, Calif., November 2011, and ended in Daytona during 2012 Daytona Beach Bike Week in February. (information was obtained through February 2012.)
Following are some stats from the 2011/2012 Progressive International Motorcycle Shows:
- Women made up 27% of all show goers for the tour in 2011-2012 vs. only 25% in 2010-2011.
- Diverse ethnicities made up 25% of all show goers for the tour in 2011-2012 vs. only 21% in 2010-2011.
- Gen Y made up 27% of all show goers for the tour in 2011-2012 vs. only 22% in 2010-2011.
- The average attendee spent $166 per person in 2011-2012 vs. $156 per person in 2010-2011. (This is a 6% increase.)
- The average attendee spent 3.74 hours on the show floor in 2011-2012 vs. 3.2 hours in on the show floor in 2010-2011. (This is a 17% increase.)
Advanstar says: “One of the biggest differentiation points for the Show tour this year was the addition of new features that traveled from city to city. The Kawasaki Design-A-Bike, Dream Pavilion and Smage Brothers Stunt Show all provided attendees with new, exciting experiences.”
