For 2012, Suzuki gave its flagship literbike, the GSX-R 1000, its first major update since 2009. During the revision process, Suzuki revamped the engine for additional throttle response and fuel efficiency, and also shaved 4.4 lbs.

Much of the updates to the 2012 GSX-R1000’s engine came from direct R&D performed by the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team, including the lighter pistons and revised cam profile.

To help with the weight factor, the Gixxer 1000 uses a “lightweight and compact twin-spar frame made of five cast sections, mated with an arched swingarm made of three castings and one-piece die-cast rear sub frame.”

But the revisions didn’t stop at the GSX-R1000’s chassis and engine. The 2012 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 also features new Brembo Monoblock calipers and Sunstar Engineering front discs, a Big Piston Fork up front with tuned settings, and additional styling enhancements.
