Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo took his fourth victory in six rounds Sunday at the Hertz British Grand Prix, which was hosted on a unusually dry Silverstone circuit.
It would be a hard-fought victory for the Spaniard, though, the 2010 MotoGP Champion getting shuffled back from his fourth-position start to fifth by the first turn. But with 17 to go, Lorenzo began closing the gap on the riders ahead, which included his teammate Ben Spies, Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner, the pole man, San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Baustista, and Ducati Team’s Nicky Hayden.
Soon some mistakes were made by the Americans, allow Stoner to the front and Lorenzo eventually into second. The two former champions began a battle, and with nine to go Lorenzo got into the lead. Stoner fought back, but Lorenzo fought to take the win ahead of Stoner. Finishing third was the other Repsol Honda RC213V piloted by Dani Pedrosa.
Fourth went to Bautista, ahead of Spies and Monster Tech 3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow, who was injured during practice. The top 10 was completed Hayden, LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl, Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi and Pramac Racing Ducati’s Hector Barbera.
