Washougal MX: GEICO Honda Report

2011 AMA Motocross

GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia bounced back from breaking his nose last week to finish sixth overall in Saturday’s Washougal National, the eighth stop in the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship.

Barcia finished fourth in the first moto and ninth in the second. Although Sunday’s results weren’t the finishes he was looking for, the 2011 Supercross Lites East champion still has hopes to finish the season strong.

Justin Barcia (GEICO Honda CRF250R Motocross) says: “I was definitely hoping to get up on the podium, but that’s the plan every weekend. The track was tough and for some reason I just couldn’t stay up in the top three but there’s always next weekend and next race is my home race so I’m looking forward to that.”

Sophomore AMA Motocross rider Eli Tomac struggled at the start of both motos and it cast a shadow over his finishes. He finished 16th and 15th, earning 17th overall.

Eli Tomac (GEICO Honda CRF250R Motocross) says: “This was just a tough weekend for our team. I got a bad start both motos, then I fell so it put me back in the pack and I had to work my way up to the front and I wasn’t able to do it.”

Tomac’s GEICO Honda AMA Motocross teammate Hahn competed in just his third race of the season after missing most of the year due to a back injury he suffered in the Supercross season opener. Hahn rode to a 14th place finish in first moto and a 17th place finish in the second moto, earning 18th overall.

Wil Hahn (GEICO Honda CRF250R Motocross) says: “I’m just happy to be back on the bike. I definitely didn’t ride as good as I know I can. I’m going to make the most of the next two weeks so I can come back strong for Unadilla.”

Tomac is currently fifth in the AMA Motocross 250cc Championship points standings followed by Barcia in seventh and Hahn in 20th.

Just prior to the trip up to Washington, Barcia, Tomac and Hahn were all treated to a special GEICO outing in Colorado to visit NORAD, one of our country’s defense command centers.

Justin Barcia
says: “Visiting NORAD was cool,” Barcia said. “It was great to see how the men and women of our country do what they do. We also got to hang out with a lot of the other teams that GEICO sponsors in NHRA and AMA Road Racing so it was awesome to get to hang out with some of our teammates away from the track.”

The next stop for the AMA Lucas Oil Outdoor Motocross Nationals will be Unadilla, Aug. 13 in New Berlin, N.Y.
