2011 SuperMoto
Bulgaria is ready to host another superb and thrilling round of the 2011 FIM SuperMoto World Championship and UEM SuperMoto European Championship on Sunday, May 29.
The Grand Prix of Italy, held at Busca on Sunday April 3rd, was the exciting opening round of the new season and the protagonists did not disappoint the expectations.
The paddock was crowded and SuperMoto Superiders were ready to battle through the pack to make up ground.
The star of the Italian GP was defending SuperMoto World Champion and red plate holder Thomas Chareyre, who reached the top of the podium on board the TM Factory Racing machinery. The author of three solitary races and series leader, finished in front of the Husqvarna Factory member Mauno Hermunen and the HM Honda Racing rider Ivan Lazzarini, second and third classified.
The two are detaining the same positions also in the SuperMoto Championship standings: Hermunen has a 15-point gap from the French leader and is separated from Lazzarini thanks to an 11-point advantage. The latter should pay attention to KTM 747 Motorsport Davide Gozzini, who is only one point far from him.
Alexis Marie Luce, Gozzini’s team mate, is fifth in the Championship in front of the TDS Faor rider Massimo Beltrami. Adrien Chareyre and the Fast Wheels ASD Team are in seventh position followed by the Luc 1 Honda Team rider Sylvain Bidart and Fabrizio Bartolini of the V2 Racing Team, while Thierry Van Den Bosch and the PMR H2O Team complete the top ten.
After the first race of the UEM European Championship, Italian Massimiliano Porfiri of the Freccia Team is detaining the leadership in the standings, followed by team mate Teo Monticelli. The top three is rounded off by the KTM 747 Motorsport rider Alessandro Tognaccini.
The Grand Prix of Bulgaria will be disputed at the exclusive tarmac track of Pleven, a spectacular and demanding circuit located in the North of the country at the centre of the Danube lowland, where the unique nature and architecture make Pleven and its track a fantastic venue for the World series.
Superiders will have to positively face the tough 516-metre asphalt sky section and the 1204-metre slide. Only the most competitive will have the chance to stand on the Bulgarian podium, that last year was conquered by Mauno Hermunen, protagonist of a maiden GP. The Finnish challenger was joined by talented Thomas Chareyre and Davide Gozzini, who grasped the second and third spot respectively.
