2011 MotoGP
When the third and final practice session was complete, Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner had scored another trifecta.
The Australian swapped the lead time with San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli, but towards the end of FP3 Stoner posted a 2:03.487, which remained the top time.
Simoncelli followed 0.233 of a second behind, with 2010 MotoGP Rookie of the Year Ben Spies in third, 0.455 behind Stoner. This is a vast improvement over the Yamaha Factory Racing rider’s Friday times, the American posting the seventh quickest times in both FP1 and FP2.
His teammate and reigning MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo also improved on Friday’s times, but couldn’t catch the top three. Lorenzo trailed Spies by 0.157 of a second.
Silverstone’s home racer, Cal Crutchlow, was fifth fastest in FP3 aboard the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha. He was followed 0.058 of a second behind by Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso, with Nicky Hayden taking the seventh, the fastest Ducati of the morning.
As for Hayden’s teammate, Valentino Rossi, the nine-time World Champion struggled with the GP11, posting the 14th-fastest time.
Another notable was Cructhlow’s teammate Colin Edwards; the Texan improved on his Friday times by four seconds as he recovers from breaking his shoulder at Catalunya.
