2011 MotoGP
Just when Dani Pedrosa began to pilot his Repsol Honda RC212V with a competitve edge following injury to his left collarbone, the Spaniard broke his right collarbone at Le Mans MotoGP Sunday.
Pedrosa’s wreck came at Turn 9, when Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini) attempted to pass him on the outside. Pedrosa’s bike hit the rear wheel of Simoncelli’s RC212V, and he hit the ground hard on his left side. Simoncelli, who says he was sorry but did nothing wrong, was penalized for the incident, having to undergo a drive-through penalty.
Following the MotoGP wreck, Pedrosa was admitted to the Clinica Teknon, where X-Rays showed he fractured his right collarbone. Pedrosa then returned home to Barcelona and had additional test completed by his doctors. Further medical tests confirmed a clean break of the right collarbone.
Repsol Honda says: “(Pedrosa) spent the night in the hospital, immobilised with a compressive dressing, and will decide in the next few days if he will undergo surgery to repair the fracture with a new plate or let the bone heal itself without intervention.
It is unknown if he will compete at the following round of the 2011 MotoGP Championship in Catalunya on June 5. Last year at Motegi MotoGP, Pedrosa broke his left collarbone in a one-man crash. He recently had further surgery on it, and has been once again competitve on the Repsol Honda.
With four of 17 MotoGP rounds completed, Pedrosa is currently in third place with 61 points, 17 behind the leader Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing).
