San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart won his second AMA Supercross race in Oakland, securing first place in the series with 92 overall points.
The day started out rough for Stewart, when a crash in the first practice led him to shorten his second Supercross practice and sit out the third.
However, in true multi-time Champion style, Stewart regained his strength and came back strong for Heat 1, where he finished first and had the fastest qualifying lap.
Shortly after, Stewart dominated the main Supercross event, leading 18 of 20 laps on a wet and challenging track, posting his second win and fourth podium finish of the season.
James Stewart (Yamaha Supercross) says: "I was feeling pretty confident out there and got it done. This is a great win for me and the team; it’s a long season and it’s all about winning a championship."
Stewart’s teammate Kyle Regal had a strong start to the day finishing fifth in Heat 1. In the main event, Regal started out in eighth, worked his way up to seventh, and crashed in lap four, dropping him down to a 17th place overall finish.
Kyle Regal (Yamaha Supercross) says: "The track was pretty slippery out there tonight and I wasn’t able to do my best."
Stewart currently holds first place in the series with 92 points. Regal is currently in 14th place with 28 points.
Both Yamaha riders will spend the week testing and training as they prepare for Round 5 of the AMA Supercross Series taking place in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday, Feb. 5.
