2011 Monster Energy Cup
Although all the hype at the inaugural Monster Energy Cup in Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, Saturday night centered around Ryan Villopoto grabbing $1 Million, there was also another huge prize given out in a side event – the Best Trick Competition.
During the Best Trick Competition, several Freestyle Motocross riders competed in a one-run try for a $40K prize.
After landing his patented "Carry-On" front-flip 360, Monster athlete Mark Monea left Vegas a happy freestyler. The $40K is surely a great bonus for the Australian whose primary income arrives as a motorcycle mechanic.
Besides the $40,000, Monea also earned the unique Dirt Shark trophy. Monster Energy says "it was a huge moment for Monea, who missed out on landing the "Carry-On" just a few months earlier at the X Games."
Another rider that pleased the crowds at the Monster Energy Cup’s Best Trick Competition was Kyle Loza’s "Scarecrow," which features him flipping the bike with one-arm while in the air. Unfortunately, Loza was unable to land the trick in the pressure-packed event.
Monster Energy says: "The hyped-up Best Trick presented by Dirt Shark competition delivered in both innovation and style, and kept the Sam Boyd crowd on its feat throughout the evening."Google+
