Marc Marquez Shines at Jerez Moto2 Test

Moto2 Test

Marc Marquez got off to a quick start during his first Moto2 test day of three at the Jerez Circuit in his native Spain.

The 125cc MotoGP Champion put down 56 laps between the morning and afternoon session, posting a best time of 1:43.9. The Repsol rider’s time was four-tenths of a second quicker than the best lap there in Moto2 set by the late Shoya Tomizawa (1:44.372).

Unlike Marquez’s last time at Jerez, the weather was excellent on Wednesday, allowing the 18-year-old rider to really open the spec-Honda 600 engine in the Moto2 machine.

During his sessions at Jerez, Marquez focused on different set ups on the Suter-framed Moto2 machine in order to analyze all the different settings.

Marquez will be back on the circuit on Thursday for the second day of testing. The Moto2 season opens up in Qatar on March 17-20.

Marc Marquez (Repsol Moto2) says: "We did a good job during the whole day. I think we are on the right path and I must thank all the members of the team for the great work done up to now.

"Today we tried different configurations of the Suter’s set-up and in the end we achieved to gather a lot of data that will allow us to continue evolving it. In the morning the track was a bit slippery, but in the afternoon the conditions improved. Tomorrow we have still a lot of work to do with just one aim: keep on gathering kilometers."
