Due to an ankle injury, Justin Brayton has reported that he will not compete in the opening round of the 2011 AMA Motocross Championship in Hangtown this Saturday, May 21.

The Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team rider twisted his ankle after snagging a tuff block during his heat race at Vegas Supercross finale two weeks ago. Upon returning home to North Carolina, it was initially reported he would have no further problems and compete in Hangtown.

But Brayton began feeling “severe discomfort” while attempting to ride his Yamaha YZ450F, and decided to visit another doctor with his Supercross/Motocross trainer, Tim Gearhart.

Muscle Milk Yamaha reports “It was determined that Brayton had sustained a torn deltoid ligament along with stretched lateral ligaments in his ankle and a strained MCL of the knee. A cast was applied and will remain in place one week, followed by an immobilizing boot for an additional week. The team is hopeful that Brayton will be able to compete by round three of the series.”

During the 2011 AMA Supercross Championship Brayton sustained an injury to his lower back at Cowboys Stadium Supercross in Dallas, which caused him to miss a few rounds.

As for Brayton’s teammate, Davi Millsaps, he’ll be competing at the 43rd Annual Hangtown Motocross Classic at Prarie City State Recreation Park in Sacramento, Calif. this Saturday.2011-justin-brayton-to-miss-hangtown-motocross 2
