When watching and re-watching the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez from last Sunday, there’s much action to study in almost every lap.

The wet Jerez MotoGP sent half of the MotoGP field to the pavement, with the biggest talk circulating around the Lap-8 crash of Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi and Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner.

The Stoner/Rossi crash has created controversy from many MotoGP fans, and now it has the FIM wanting further explanation from Jerez MotoGP Race officials.

On Tuesday, the FIM released a statement stating that “the Race Direction has decided to organize a hearing with the Clerk of the Course and the Chief Marshal in order to review the incident and to hear the explanation of the officials in charge.

“Due to the fact that the final decision of the Race Direction will not affect the result of the race, the hearing will be organized on Thursday April 28 in Estoril, Portugal.”

As stated, this will only be a hearing for an explanation about the Jerez crash, and regardless of what is stated, the results will remain the same.

As for the crash Sunday at Jerez at MotoGP, Stoner had just lost the lead to San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli with 22 to go. Behind, Rossi was storming to the front from his 11th-postion start on the grid.

On Lap 8, Rossi attempted to Pass Stoner on the inside of the the front straight heading into turn 1. But Rossi turned in a bit early, causing him to lose the front-end of the Ducati GP11.

When Rossi began sliding, he took out Stoner’s RC212V. Rossi was able to remount and finish fifth due to many accidents involving other MotoGP riders. But Stoner wasn’t able to finish, suffering a DNF.

After the crash, Rossi apologized to Stoner, taking full blame for the wreck.

Stoner, who won the opening round of 2011 MotoGP at Qatar, dropped from first to third in the MotoGP Championship, 20 points behind the Spaniard who won at Jerez, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo. Rossi is in fifth with 20 points.
