Checa & Ducati Misano Test Report

2011 World Superbike

Following Monza World Superbike, the Althea Ducati team went right back to work, conducting two days of testing at Misano Tuesday and Wednesday.

Overall, the current World Superbike Championship leader, Carlos Checa, lapped the Misano circuit 140 times aboard the Ducati 1198R. While testing, the team and the Spaniard concentrated on the Ducati’s setup, testing various settings and trying different tires.

Once the WSBK test was complete, Checa posted a 1:34.8 on a qualifying tire. Although an unofficial record, Checa’s time was the quickest time of all teams that tested. The team is hoping that the fast pace can be repeated at the Misano World Superbike round on June 12.

Carlos Checa (Althea Ducati 1198R Superbike) says: “We have worked well, concentrating on both chassis settings and electronics, as well as on the tyres of course. We have found a good set-up for the Misano race and have also identified a few things that could be useful at Miller too.

“This morning the track conditions were good and I was able to lap very fast with a qualifier. Then this afternoon, although the track was slower, I found good rhythm with the race tire. Let’s say I’m satisfied. I’ve got good sensation back again; after Monza, a really difficult round for me, I’m happy to have been able to come here and be competitive once again. I’m very pleased.”
