Although rumors spreading around the motocross paddocks have been heavy that KTM’s Antonio Cairoli will compete in AMA Supercross/Motocross, it was confirmed Wednesday that the Italian has signed once again with KTM to compete in the 2012 FIM Motocross Championship.
Youthstream (FIM Motocross Media) says:”Antonio Cairoli has signed a contract with KTM to race the FIM Motocross World Championship next year and for the future. Now is the time to celebrate Antonio’s marvellous 2011 season.”
With 13 of 15 rounds complete in the 2011 MX1 schedule, the four-time FIM Motocross Grand Prix champion leads with 554 points, 82 ahead of Steven Frossard (Monster Energy Yamaha).
Cairoli has 11 podiums, including five GP wins, and has garnered six MX1 Red Plates. The season continues at Gaildorf in Europe for the penultimate round Sept. 4.
