2011 World Superbike
During Round 10 of the 2011 World Superbike Championship at Nurburgring earlier this month, the reigning champion Max Biaggi suffered a deadening blow to his hopes for a second consecutive title.
The Alitalia Aprilia rider was forced to sit out both races due to an injury. Biaggi hit some debris on the track during practice, and the Italian sustained a fracture to the metatarsus in his left foot kept the Corsair from riding onto the track, in spite of both Max’s and the Mobile Clinic doctors’ best efforts.
With round 11 of 13 set for Imola for this weekend, Biaggi is diligently working at being recovered for his home race.
Although he’s undergoing much therapy and treatment, Biaggi is not guranateeing his return to the World Superbike Championship this weekend in efforts to battle for points with the current series leader, Althea Ducati’s Carlos Checa (following is what Biaggi says on his personal website).
Max Biaggi (Alitalia Aprilia RSV4 Superbike) says: “Here I am 10 days after my accident writing about my physical condition” he declared. “The pain of the fracture is a bit better than yesterday. In fact the bone was broken and I knew it would be more difficult than expected. I am working all day, I am doing magnetic therapy sessions and am trying to do small movements. But the thing is more complicated than expected.
“Time is short and the difficulty will be huge but I will try with all my strength. I am so much looking forward to going racing again!”
“I cannot assure you anything except the fact that I will fight to be there (Imola). I am constantly in touch with Dr. Costa and my physiotherapist. I will keep you updated this week.”
In the 2011 World Superbike Championship, Biaggi has 302 points, 72 behind Checa.
