2011 Tiger 800 XC
As the Adventure Motorcycle sector continues to gain more interest, more and more manufacturers are getting involved. Many compete against some of the largest manufacturers in the industry building these adventure tourers, including BMW and Ducati.
But there’s a new player for 2011, as Triumph introduces the Tiger 800XC to the world, a 799cc-Triple-powered motorcycle designed for ultimate adventure motorcycling. The Tiger 800XC model is the upgraded version of the standard Tiger 800, featuring additional capability off-road due to suspension and wheel upgrades.
The Tiger 800 XC was released at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, on Nov. 2, and now joins the many new models in Triumph’s 2011 line up, including the Thunderbird Storm, America and Speedmaster (these were all released at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, in October).
Satu Mehta (Vice President of Sales for Triumph North America) says: “Entering the adventure touring segment is big news for everyone at Triumph, and we know from customer comments that they’re just as excited.”
“Triumph’s new adventure motorcycles give us a strong offering in every motorcycle category and a great platform to build on in the coming years.”
The Tiger 800XC features a 94-hp, long-stroke 799cc inline three-cylinder engine inside a strong chassis capable of extreme off-road traveling.
Where the Tiger 800 XC differs from the standard 800 is longer travel suspension, a 21″ spoke front wheel (19″ on standard 800) and a higher seat position, which Triumph says “provides a commanding view of the road ahead and absorbs even the worst road conditions.”
The longer travel suspension is due to a 45mm upside down fork (43mm on the standard), which features 220mm of travel (compared to 180mm).
And out back, the Showa monoshock has a remote oil reservoir, with hydraulically adjustable preload and rebound damping adjustment. This allows for 215mm rear-wheel travel, compared to 170mm on the standard Tiger 800.
Many official Triumph accessories are available for the 800 XC, including hard bags and gel seats of varying heights.
There are also off-road protection parts available; the class-leading 645w alternator ensures that the Tiger 800XC will have no problem running the auxiliary lights and heated handlebar grips that are available as official accessories.
