World Superbike FP2: Fabrizio Fastest

WSBK Monza

The second Free Practice session in Monza this morning put three different manufacturers on top, with only .06 of a second between the fastest riders, displaying again the tightness of the racing.

Michel Fabrizio piloted his Xerox Ducati 1098R to a 1:42.619, which was over a second quicker than his free practice and qualifying practice results on Friday. These results are no shock considering the Italian took first last year in Race 1, and took second in Race 2 behind the WSBK’s rookie championship winner, Ben Spies.

The second fastest in FP2 was Aprilia Alitalia Racing rider Max Biaggi. The Italian, who was only able to grab eleventh- and fifth-place finishes last year, had a lap time of 1:42.679. Biaggi also posted the quickest speed on his RSV4 Factory during FP1, clocking 203 mph.

Third fastest was Great Britain’s Jonathan Rea. The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider would post a 1:42.885 on his CBR1000RR. Last year, Rea finished 4th and 5th at Monza…but he’s coming off a great victory. During the last round of WSBK action in Assen, Rea took both races, the first double victory of his career.
