Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha M1) took his ninth win at final 2010 round in Valencia Spain in front of a wild home crowd.
In second place and his last ride with Ducati, Casey Stoner had led most of the MotoGP race but with eight of the 30 laps remaining Lorenzo relegated him to second at Valencia .
Valentino Rossi ended a seven-year chapter in his successful motorcycle racing career with Fiat Yamaha and placed third after an early race scrap with Lorenzo. The Italian also secured third in the final MotoGP Championship standings ahead of Stoner.
The fight for fourth was won by Texan Ben Spies in final race with Monster Yamaha Tech 3 before moving up the Fiat Yamaha Team to replace Valentino Rossi.
The American rider had been locked in a battle with Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda RC212V) who secured fifth ahead of the San Carlo Honda Gresini rookie Marco Simoncelli who finished in sixth at Valencia.
Lorenzo’s final points tally of 383 is also a new record for the most points scored in a single season in the MotoGP class. His win was also the first at Valencia for Yamaha in the 800cc motorcycle era.
