Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines raced a Harley-Davidson V-Rod to the semi-final round of Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the Summit Race Engineering NHRA Nationals at Summit Motor Sports Park. With his weekend results, Hines moves up to third place in the series season standings. The event was won by Al-Anabi Racing Buell rider Matt Smith.
Hines qualified third for the event with an elapsed time (ET) of 6.934 seconds. Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Ed Krawiec qualified eighth at 6.974 seconds. Lincoln Tech Suzuki rider Steve Johnson led qualifying with a 6.929 ET.
Krawiec lost to VRoom Racing Buell rider David Hope in the first round of Sunday eliminations, after leaving the line with 0.239-second reaction time and a 7.051 ET to the 0.042/7.025 pass posted by Hope.
"I screwed up and got way out of my focus area at the line," said Krawiec. "I had a good bike today, and we made progress with some new parts this weekend. Hopefully we can do a little more R&D before the next race and come back stronger."
Hines defeated Pirana Z Buell rider Junior Pippin in round one and Suzuki rider LT Tonglet in round two to earn a semi-final match with Hector Arana on the Lucas Oil Buell. Arana prevailed with a 0.013/7.033 run to beat the 0.065/7.026 pass made by Hines. Arana then lost to Smith in the final round.
Andrew Hines says: "I was shooting for a 0.040 reaction time, and just came off the line too slow. You can’t do that in this class any more. I will say that Arana took a chance on the tree today and it worked out for him. The Harley-Davidson team had a good weekend. We installed some new chassis and engine parts and didn’t have time to test before we left for Norwalk, and saw some positive results early. Then we kind of got lost on the set-up, but we know how to get that back for the next race."
With eight rounds of the 17-race 2010 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle season complete, Arana leads in points with 721, followed by Smith with 601 and Hines with 562 points. Krawiec is in seventh place with 453 points.
The next Pro Stock Motorcycle event on the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule is the Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals, July 16-18, at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.Google+
