Remy Gardner, the son of former MotoGP 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner, will compete against Luca Marini, the younger half-brother of nine-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi, in the NSF100 European Cup Final, scheduled for the October 22-24 at the Circuito de Albacete, Spain.
The 10-year old Remy Gardner (son of Wayne) will line up on the motorcycle-starting grid against 13-year old Luca Marini (half-brother of Valentino Rossi) in what promises to be an enthralling motorcycle battle.
Both will be riding identical motorcycle, the Honda NSF100, so the battle will be likely decided on pure rider merit alone.
Wayne Gardner and Valentino Rossi come from different eras of motorcycle racing and never had the chance to race each other on a MotoGP racetrack.
However the motorcycle racers have both won MotoGP World Championships for Honda and know what it takes to become a champion at the highest level of the sport; knowledge they are sure to have imparted on their younger relations.
Luca Marini has been racing a Honda NSF100 in the Italian NSF100 Championship and so is familiar with the racing mini motorcycle.
Remy Gardner on the other hand will be making his motorcycle road-racing debut in the Honda NSF100 European Cup Final event.
Still too young to compete in MotoGP or even any other motorcycle road-racing in his native Australia, Remy will be using this one-off weekend of competition as a springboard for his motorcycle road-racing career.
The young Australian does however have 3-years dirt-track experience to his name and his been practicing on the Moriwaki 80 at local tracks in his homeland in preparation for this motorcycle racing event.
Luca Marini has already showed his road racing promise, competing in the Italian series and posting impressive results. He is one of 12 Italian riders competing in the NSF100 European Cup Final and is one of the favorites to take overall glory.
His riding style has been likened to that of Valentino Rossi and his results are expected to soon start following in the same vein of the most successful MotoGP rider of a generation.
These two young motorcycle riders could well be the MotoGP World Champions of the future but there will be 34 other motorcycle riders on the grid that will have something to say about that and all will be looking to take the scalp of a famous name early on in their career.
Remy Gardner (Honda NSF100 racer) says: I’m so excited and I can’t wait until the race. Hopefully it will be a good learning experience for me, and it will be good to see what the competition is like over in Europe. I’ve been dreaming of going to Spain to race for a few years and finally that dream has come true thanks to Honda.”
