Superbike Infineon
On May 14th to 16th, Infineon Raceway will host the top motorcycle road-racers in the country at the West Coast Moto Jam.
The weekend will feature racing in AMA Pro National Guard American SuperBike, AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL and AMA Pro SuperSport.
The weekend will also feature the TTXGP U.S. Championships, marking the first zero-carbon motorcycle race on U.S. soil.
This is the fourth of 18 stops on the AMA Pro Road Racing series for 2010. It will be a doubleheader weekend, with two main events each in the American SuperBike, Daytona SportBike and SuperSport divisions.
The Infineon Raceway circuit is a 12-turn, 2.28-mile road course for all AMA-sanctioned events.
The AMA SuperBike and Daytona SportBike main events will last for 27 exciting laps. The SuperSport main events are 18 laps in distance.
Last year the winners were: Josh Hayes on the Yamaha R1 in AMA Superbike race 1; Mat Mladin on the rather dominate Suzuki GSX-R1000 in race 2; Martin Cardenas on the Suzuki GSX-R600 in both Daytona SportBike main events and Ricky Parker on the Kawasaki ZX-6R in SuperSport.
The current AMA road racing qualifying records are as follows: AMA American SuperBike: Ben Spies (Suzuki) 84.365 mph, 2008; Daytona SportBike: Jason DiSalvo (Yamaha) 83.678 mph, 2009 and SuperSport: Ben Bostrom (Yamaha) 82.615 mph, 2008.
With the retirement of seven-time champion Mat Mladin, it’s a wide-open field in the American SuperBike class:
> San Francisco native Jake Zemke has posted two victories this season, and enters the weekend with a four-point lead over Tommy Hayden (Rockstar Makita Suzuki) in American SuperBike.
> Josh Hayes (Yamaha) broke Suzuki’s eight-race SuperBike win streak in Sonoma last year with a win.
> Suzuki had not lost in Sonoma since 2004
> Graves Yamaha’s Josh Herrin enters Sonoma with the Daytona SportBike points lead, but Martin Cardenas (M4 Monster Energy Suzuki) has the momentum after sweeping the doubleheader at Road Atlanta.
> Cardenas also swept both races at Infineon Raceway last year.
>Ricky Parker won in SuperSport in Sonoma last year.
> Two Bay Area female riders will compete in Sonoma, Elena Myers (Discovery Bay) and Melissa Paris (Concord)
> Other local favorites include Steve Rapp (Acalanes High School graduate in Lafayette); Joey Pascarella (Vacaville); and Ben Bostrom (Petaluma High School graduate), among others
> Pascarella won in SuperSport in Daytona in March and leads the SuperSport West points with three wins this season.
In addition…
> Supermoto USA returns for the 5th consecutive year to the Infineon Raceway Karting Center with racing slated for Friday-Sunday.
> Infineon Raceway will host the first zero-carbon motorcycle race in the United States with the TTXGP U.S. Championships.
> Motocross returns after a one-year hiatus with racing in vintage, amateur and endurance divisions. More than 300 riders are expected for this three-day event.
Flat Track will take place on a quarter-mile oval created behind the Turn 9 Terrace with Eddie Mulder’s West Coast Dirt Track Series. This marks the first Flat Track event at Infineon Raceway in more than 20 years.
> There will also be a motorcycle art show, Grape Crushers Run motorcycle ride, rider autograph sessions, Track Talk Q&A sessions and more.
