After providing rally-goers a world-renowned array of musical acts and Michael Lichter’s unparalleled motorcycles as art exhibit during Rally Week 2009, the Legendary Buffalo Chip is already kicking it into overdrive to prepare for next year’s rally. Locked, loaded and ready to grace the Chip’s infamous main amphitheatre stage is rock and roll luminary, ZZ Top. That little ol’ band from Texas is sure to deliver the familiar and intricate riffs that landed them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in the hearts of fans the world over. The notoriously bearded blues-rock power trio will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary next year and is looking forward to ringing in this musical achievement with a rowdy crowd of Chipsters.
"We’re excited to have ZZ Top back at the Chip next year," explains Buffalo Chip owner, Rod Woodruff. "2010 is a milestone year- ZZ Top will be celebrating their 40th and Sturgis will be celebrating its 70th. We’re going to be bringing a number of top national acts next summer in addition to ZZ Top as well. It’s going to be an incredible celebration."
Rally Week 2009 also witnessed the unveiling of the brand new 6,500 square foot Lichter Exhibition Hall at the Legendary Buffalo Chip and Michael Lichter’s 9th Annual Motorcycles as Art Exhibit. The exhibit entitled ‘Rebel Rousers, Motorcycle Icons that Inspire Us to Ride’ showcased the most important collection of motorcycles and art to ever grace Sturgis and was viewed by thousands of guests, including a myriad of high-profile and celebrity motorcycle enthusiasts. Pat Simmons had this to say regarding Lichter’s Rebel Rousers Exhibit, "When I walked through the door of the Lichter Exhibition Hall into the "Rebel Rousers" exhibit, I was transported back to that moment in time, when I first realized that I had to have a motorcycle. As soon as I started riding, I knew this would be a part of my life that I would never let go of. All the reasons for my love of the sport, were gathered together in that room; Beautiful amazing machinery, esoteric memorabilia from the early years through the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, rock ‘n roll music, and the icons who inspired us to ride, and being there with friends and enthusiasts who, like me, were feeling those same emotions. I kept thinking, "It just doesn’t get much better than this! Thanks Michael."
Lichter has already begun to focus his artful eye on next year’s 10th Annual Motorcycles as Art display and it promises to be just as riveting.
