MotoGP Race Report
For the second year in a row, Hungary MotoGP fans won’t be able to catch champions like Valentino Rossi or Casey Stoner racing in their country. Due to bank troubles, the Hungarian track Balatonring will not be completed in time for the 14th round of the 2010 MotoGP Championship.
The FIM confirmed Thursday that the Hungarian Grand Prix will be replaced by the Grand Prix of Aragon at the circuit of Motorland Aragon in Spain, which makes four MotoGP races in Spain; the date will be the same, Sept. 19.
This isn’t the first time Balatonring in the town of Savoly caused the MotoGP series some troubles; last year, the builders missed the deadline for the track that was supposed to be "motorcycle racing’s answer to Hungary’s famous Hungaroring Formula One racetrack."
And for 2010, first the builders postponed the opening date, then the Hungarian Development Bank refused to sign a 15.3-billion forint (Hungarian Currency: Equals $79 million) loan contract with the developers. With the lack of money, the track can’t be completed.
With Motorland Aragon added to the list, the 3.3-mile circuit near Alcaniz now joins the rest of Spain’s tracks: Jerez, Valencia and Barcelona.
