Jorge Lorenzo has had mixed fortune in recent years at Mugello; he finished 2nd in 2005 after qualifying on the pole for the first time in the 250cc class, won from pole in 2006, but in 2007 qualifi ed down in 20th place in a rain affected session and then after coming through the field to lead he crashed on the final lap and re-mounted to finish 8th. Last year he crashed on lap seven while battling with Dovizioso for 5th place.
Although Valentino Rossi has had seven MotoGP victories at Mugello it is one of only two circuits on this year’s calendar where he has not had a fastest lap in the MotoGP class – the other is Laguna Seca.
Mugello is one of five circuits where Casey Stoner has not had a win in any class, the others are; Le Mans, Jerez, Motegi and Indianapolis. He crashed out of the MotoGP race at Mugello in 2006 on lap nine after making his way up to 3rd from 9th on the grid, in 2007 he was 4th after qualifying on pole for the first time on the Ducati and last year he set a new lap record on his way to finishing 2nd.
Dani Pedrosa has had consistently good results in the MotoGP class at Mugello: in 2006 he was 4th, just 2 seconds behind winner Rossi; in 2007 he finished 2nd after leading for a couple of laps and setting the fastest lap of the race having qualified in 8th place on the grid and last year he was the first Michelin rider, in 3rd place. His one win at Mugello came in the 250cc class in 2005.
